What are PURTABS?

PURTABS are effervescent disinfecting and sanitizing tablets that deliver high performance without the harsh chemicals. Evaclean PURTABS are available in three tablet sizes and dissolve quickly in water to produce a variety of strengths that meet the range of needs for every facility. From low-level sanitization required for food-contact surfaces, to powerful infection control for C. diff in health care settings and efficacy against SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 in all settings.

The smarter, safer, sustainable alternative to bleach.

Why PURTABS?

Infection control is more important than ever. Every public surface can potentially be contaminated with bacteria or viruses including (but not limited to) staph, hepatitis, norovirus, strep, HIV, salmonella, influenza H1N1, rhinoviruses. C. Di spores and much more. No surface is safe, and some are worse than others. PURTABS disinfectant is a quick, safe and effective way to sanitize and disinfect surfaces.

Facts About Infectious Diseases

According to the CDC:

  • More than two million Americans develop antibiotic-resistant infections each year, resulting in 23,000 deaths
  • Each year 20% of the US population contracts the flu and tens of thousands of people are hospitalized.
  • The common cold, Rhinovirus, is the main reason the majority of our population misses school or work every year.
  • Norovirus is the #1 cause of acute gastroenteritis outbreaks worldwide.
  • COVID-19, with no known vaccine, is responsible for over 2 million cases in the United States alone

PURTABS vs. Conventional Disinfectants

  • PURTABS kill mold and mildew, plus eliminate and control odors
  • PURTABS are versatile, from a no rinse food contact sanitizer, to a hospital grade disinfectant with a 4-minute C Diff kill rate
  • PURTABS are a broad-spectrum disinfectant with more kill claims than other sanitizing alternatives
  • PURTABS neutral pH is surface, human and environmentally-friendly
  • Testing on metal substrates prove PURTABs are 50% less corrosive than bleach, plus won’t harm fabrics or substrates with normal use
  • pH at neutral levels ensures the more effective bactericide, HOCL, remains dominant in the solution
  • Diluted PURTABS are stable in closed containers for 3 days once diluted and stored in a closed container. In an open container, the solution is stable for 24 hours.
  • PURTABS are more cost effective than conventional disinfectants

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

(:1f535:) How do you use PURTABS?

Drop two 334mg PURTABS tablets into 5 gallons of water. Let stand 7 to 15 minutes before use. To achieve an available chlorine concentration of 10 ppm; refer to the dilution chart for the number of tablets to use.

(:1f535:) How long is the solution stable once diluted?

PURTABS are stable for 3 days once diluted and stored in a closed container. In an open container, the solution is stable for 24 hours.

(:1f535:) Does spraying PURTABS leave “bubble marks, or streaking” on plastic and stainless steel?

At a 4306 ppm concentration (4 minute C.diff claim), it may leave some residue, which would need to be wiped with water once dry. With all other concentrations, residue will not be left on plastic or stainless steel. Disinfecting and sanitizing with the electrostatic sprayer is not a substitute for proper cleaning protocols.

(:1f535:) Do PURTABS have a smell?

Yes. PURTABS has a slight chlorine smell that dissipates quickly after application leaving what most end users describe as a “clean” or “sterile” smell.

(:1f535:) In residential applications what is the recommended dwell time for PURTABS and what concentration level to be most effective and safe for occupied households?

1076 ppm would be the highest concentration you’d want to use in a household, and you would spot test if applying near/around fabrics to ensure that it is colorfast. Non-colorfast fabrics could “bleach.”

(:1f535:) Will this stain fabrics?

PURTABS should not be used on non-colorfast fabrics, wool or silk fabrics, or any fabric with a special finish. If applying around fabrics, test on an inconspicuous area prior to use.

(:1f535:) What are PURTABS made of; what chemicals are in them?

The PURTABS Chemistry is based around NaDCC, an organic chlorine donor which yields Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) and Monosodium Cyanurate (NaOCl) when dissolved in water. This solution results in a free available chlorine count (ppm) that is easily measurable with test strips to ensure the solution concentration is consistent with usage guidelines and all of the efficacy claims and data that are on our EPA Registered Label. There are 3 tablet size options to make mixing the proper concentration simple.

(:1f535:) How long is the solution stable once diluted?

PURTABS are stable for 3 days once diluted and stored in a closed container. In an open container, the solution is stable for 24 hours.

(:1f535:) Are PURTABS EPA registered?

Yes, PURTABS are EPA registered: EPA Reg. No. 71847-6-91524.

(:1f535:) Are PURTABS safe?

As with any disinfectant, caution must be taken when using PURTABS. There are no Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) exposure concerns for workers or when using the sprayer in a public setting. EarthSafe conducted independent third party testing with American Environmental Consultants, Inc. to conduct personal air sampling. These were performed by a trained industrial hygienist using OSHA and NIOSH sampling techniques. All results verified that spraying PURTABS with the Protexus Sprayer fall below published accepted Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL) and Threshold Limit Value (TLV).

(:1f535:) What PPE should I wear?

When making a PURTABS solution, wear chemical-resistant gloves and safety glasses or face shield. After handling, wash thoroughly with soap and water and before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco, or using the toilet. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

No personal protective equipment is required while spraying properly diluted product.

(:1f535:) Are PURTABS are safe to use while pregnant?

Yes, PURTABS are safe to use when pregnant. The disinfectant has an HMIS rating of 0,0,0, which is the safest rating for chemical usage.PURTABS have a neutral pH and there is no PPE required when using them once diluted (we do recommend gloves when handling the tablets before they are diluted). It is not harmful to humans, pets, or plants. It dilutes to HOCl in water, which is actually what our bodies use as a natural line of defense against infection.
